  12. "PurgeIE" is an acronym for "Purge Cache, Cookies and Tracks for
  13. Internet Explorer".

  15. "PurgeIE" is the "Swiss Army Knife" of Internet Explorer Cleanup and
  16. Management Tools.

  18. "PurgeIE" is useful whether you need to save disk space, manage your
  19. Cache and Cookies or to Cleanup your surfing Tracks.

  21. "PurgeIE" is distributed as Shareware.

  23. System Requirements:  Windows 95/98/2000/ME or NT 4.0
  24.                       Internet Explorer 4.x or 5.x

  26. Notice  -  Netscape is not supported.

  28. This trial version of "PurgeIE" may be installed and then evaluated for
  29. up to 15 non-contiguous days.

  31. There are no limitations imposed on the product within the trial period.

  33. After the trial period, "PurgeIE" must be registered to regain full
  34. functionality.  Registration costs only $14.95.

  36. To register, select the "Help" button on PurgeIE's main window, then
  37. select "Registration".  Detailed instructions are available in the
  38. "Help" file.

  53. This folder contains the self-extracting installation file for
  54. "PurgeIE" - PURG401.EXE
  55.  
  56. To install "PurgeIE", simply execute (run) PURG401.EXE from this
  57. folder.

  59. If it becomes necessary to uninstall "PurgeIE", please use the
  60. 'Add/Remove' function found on your Window's 'Control Panel'.

  65.                               Overview
  66.  
  67. "PurgeIE" is a Shareware utility program designed to help maintain the
  68. Cache and Cookie files and to remove one's Tracks for Internet
  69. Explorer 4.0, or higher, whether running on Windows 95, Windows 98,
  70. Windows 2000, Windows ME or NT 4.0.
  71.  
  72. "PurgeIE" offers several options in its fresh approach to the cleanup
  73. of Internet Explorer files:
  74.  
  75. First, a distinction is made between Offline Cache and Online Cache.
  76. These can be purged individually.
  77.  
  78. Online Cache was referred to as Subscription Cache in IE-4.  This
  79. document uses the term Online Cache to refer to "other than Offline"
  80. Cache.

  82. Second, the user has the option to specify a "minimum time since last
  83. use" for purging Offline Cache and for purging Online
  84. Cache.
  85.  
  86. Third, Internet Explorer's primary INDEX.DAT files are properly
  87. updated without deleting them.  This is done in a manner consistent
  88. with the design of Internet Explorer's Cache system that was
  89. implemented beginning with Version 4.0.  This avoids the requirement
  90. for "rebooting" that other such utility programs require for their
  91. deleting the primary INDEX.DAT files.

  93. Fourth, an option is provided for deleting "Stray" Cache and Cookie
  94. files.  These are files for which the index pointers have been lost
  95. within the INDEX.DAT files.

  97. Fifth, a convenient method is provided for "protecting Cookies" from
  98. its purge function.

  100. Sixth, this utility can also be viewed as a Track Cleaning utility as
  101. it has functions for deleting the user's tracks that Internet Explorer
  102. deposits in various Cache files, the INDEX.DAT files, the History
  103. Folders, the Windows Temporary files and the Registry.

  105. Seventh, a Preview option is provided to enable the user to preview
  106. the effect of each of the Purge options.
